Coast-to-coast ‘09

Behold, the birth of a new category! Welcome to coast-to-coast ‘09.

Stop me if you’re familiar with this particular childhood dream: Traveling from one coast of the United States of America to the other, all from the comforts of an automobile. One helluva’ road trip! Sightseeing all the wonders along the way, taking little spontaneous detours if something catches the eye, stress free and full of experiences. I’d say that’s a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity, who would be able to say no??

So yeah, I’ve been invited to that trip. Me and some friends are already genuinely talking and planning it. It started with three of them getting together about it, but c’mon you totally need more than that for a proper road trip. Besides, only one of them had a drivers license so they were desperate to find one more wheel-guy. Turns out I know how to drive a car! And I hadn’t made plans for summer yet. One thing lead to another and, well, here we are.

So first of all: a cross-country trip is a long trip! Denmark is a tiny country, a two hour drive would pretty much get me to any destination imaginable. Hell I could drive right out the country in half an hour if I wanted to. Mm, not so much for the US… So, today I asked for sufficient vacation time to pull off a trip of this magnitude. My heart goes out to our lovely CEO who kindly agreed to let me pool most of my vacation days into one big massive vacation. I now have 23 days of glorious vacation in the month of August!! Let the planning begin in earnest.

Just to get a rough idea of what it means going cross-country we brainstormed various places we’d love to visit and threw together this possible route. Nothing is final yet, but even this rough draft makes me excited and giddy at all the possible adventures.

More to follow, stay tuned.
