Jeez. After installing Vista 64-bit and using it for a couple days I’ve only just now realized that both Internet Explorer and Media Player runs as classic 32-bit applications. What a mess, it feels so clumsy that Microsoft haven’t been able to make a complete switch to 64-bits, it just keeps dragging on. They’re so afraid of letting their users run into incompatibility issues, but they are themselves perpetuating that incompatibility problem by making the move as slow and painful as possible.

Well, after reading about the issue a bit more I guess the rest of the mainstream software industry haven’t moved to 64-bit any more than Microsoft has. Between Adobe’s Flash and a big pile of media codecs not being 64-bit ready yet it’s starting to dawn on me why we’re in this transitional phase.
